Closures and OneStop blackout period – May 9 to June 2, 2025

Effective May 9, 2025, the Water Use Reporting System (WURS) will be closed, and water use reporting for licences regulated by the Alberta government will be done in the Digital Regulatory Assurance System (DRAS). See the Getting started section below for more information on reporting water use in DRAS.

Also effective May 9, the Alberta Energy Regulator (AER) will discontinue the Water Act Temporary Diversion Licence Electronic Review System (WATERS). Beginning June 2, applications for energy- and mineral-related water use licences (including Temporary Diversion Licences) and submissions regarding water use monitoring and reporting regulated by the AER will be entered in OneStop. During OneStop’s 3-week blackout period from May 9 to June 2, applicants will not be able to apply for Temporary Diversion Licences or make water use submissions. Move your licence

If you are an individual or organization holding Water Act (or preceding Water Resources Act) licence(s) issued, renewed or amended before November 2021 by the Government of Alberta, you must move your water licence(s) into DRAS. Licences renewed and amended after November 2021 are already in DRAS and do not need to be moved. See "Move my Licence: Water Act" on the Digital Regulatory Assurance System page to learn more about how to move your water licence(s) into DRAS and refer to the following instructional aids:

Getting started

Since early 2024, the Alberta government has been informing licence holders of the move of water use reporting from WURS to DRAS. If you have not already done so, do the following as soon as possible:

  • Move your licence into DRAS.
  • Report water use in DRAS.

Licence holders who have moved their licence(s) will receive a confirmation email informing them that their licence data has been transferred and that they and/or their assigned representative can begin using their custom “DRAS Dashboard” to access licence information, report water use, receive important notifications related to their licence(s) and more.
