Introduction

The following survey is an opportunity for statutory consent holders within the Red Earth sub-region to provide alternative means and measures to the proposed management approaches in the draft Red Earth Sub-regional Plan and its regulatory details.

For the Red Earth Sub-regional Plan to be implemented, the intent is to adopt the sub-regional plan and incorporate the sub-regional plan’s regulatory details into the Lower Athabasca Regional Plan (LARP). Implementing the sub-regional plan and the regulatory details under the LARP provides:

  • non-binding policy directions for sub-regional plan directions
  • regulatory details to provide legal authority to enable implementation and enforcement for components of the sub-regional plan
  • greater certainty that we can achieve the outcomes of this sub-regional plan

The Red Earth sub-region is located in the Lower Athabasca, Lower Peace, Upper Athabasca and Upper Peace regions. The Alberta Land Stewardship Act (ALSA) provides for a regional plan to “manage an activity, effect, cause of an effect or person outside a planning region until a regional plan comes into force with respect to the matter or person”. This allows the LARP to direct activities in the other regions.

Your feedback will help us understand how the sub-regional plan, its regulatory details and its approval under the Alberta Land Stewardship Act may affect you and will help us identify opportunities to strengthen the sub-regional plan.

You will also be able to provide feedback on changes to the LARP required to implement LARP commitments within this sub-regional area.

This survey will take 15 to 30 minutes to complete.

Management approaches

Having reviewed the proposed management approaches in the draft plan, are there any specific management approaches, including those identified in regulatory details that, in your opinion, may affect your statutory consent?

Access management

The plan manages access in the Red Earth sub-region by reducing inactive roads. This approach aims to reduce landscape fragmentation while continuing to support economic activity and maintain flexibility for disposition and tenure access.
