Overview
The Premier’s Investment Council will help get major projects moving, grow our industries and create jobs and prosperity for people living in Alberta, further solidifying Alberta’s position as an economic powerhouse and leader in Canada’s economy.
The global geopolitical and economic landscape continues to change at a rapid pace. We are responding by taking a system-wide approach to investment attraction in Alberta so that we can move strategically and act decisively when opportunity calls.
The launch of the Premier’s Investment Council supports the Alberta government’s commitment to review our approach to investment and growth and to create a roadmap that helps the province grow and diversify trade and investment opportunities.
Council mandate
The Premier’s Investment Council is responsible for providing recommendations and advice to help:
- deliver collaboration across the investment attraction ecosystem
- inform Alberta’s overarching investment strategy
- support attraction of large-scale global investment opportunities through intelligence sharing regarding trends in the global investment environment
- assess Alberta’s competitive position in key sectors relative to investment
- ensure intelligence sharing with key investment attraction agencies to maximize performance and effectiveness
- provide strategic insight for large, cross-government investment files
- track major investment files (while respecting confidentiality) to ensure Alberta is maximizing its ability to attract industry and capital to Alberta
Deliverables
Council members will contribute to:
- sharing market intelligence, networks and key contacts established by agencies and ministries working with domestic and global investors
- presenting a consolidated overview of high-impact investments being pursued by Alberta’s government and member agencies
