Input received
People in Alberta had the opportunity to attend the following town halls to learn more about Alberta’s unique approach to AI data centres and share input:
- Central Region (Lacombe) – August 19, 2026
- Sturgeon County – August 20, 2026
- Grande Prairie – September 11, 2026
Participants expressed concerns about the desirability of AI infrastructure and the government's ability to regulate it effectively. In response, Minister Glubish gave 4 core assurances:
- Projects should only proceed where they are appropriately located.
- Proponents would bring their own power and pay for all infrastructure and remediation costs.
- Albertans' power, water and privacy interests must be protected first.
- Economic opportunities from data centres must be balanced against community concerns and public interest.
