  • Ghost-Kananaskis Sub-regional Plan Survey

Introduction

The Government of Alberta is seeking your input for the Ghost-Kananaskis sub-regional planning area.

We would like to hear from you as we develop the Ghost-Kananaskis Sub-regional Plan (SRP). The Ghost and Kananaskis sub-regions along Alberta’s eastern slopes are a mix of public lands, parks and protected areas that are collectively referred to as Crown Lands. This area has been identified as priority areas for updated land-use planning.

Engagement opportunities for this planning process are available in two phases.

  • Phase 1 (current): Feedback on draft vision and outcomes. Input gathered will be used to help inform development of a draft SRP for the Ghost-Kananaskis area, providing the framework for how the Ghost and Kananaskis sub-regions will be managed into the future.
  • Phase 2 (anticipated in winter 2026): Feedback on the specific elements of the draft Ghost-Kananaskis SRP, prior to its finalization.

Review the map and learn more about sub-regional planning in the Ghost-Kananaskis engagement before completing this survey.

The survey will take 5 to 10 minutes to complete and closes June 5, 2026.

Draft vision

The draft vision of the Ghost-Kananaskis Sub-regional Plan is:

The Ghost-Kananaskis Sub-regional Plan envisions a landscape where conservation, cultural, recreational and tourism values coexist in harmony. This plan seeks to protect headwaters, preserve biodiversity, and support responsible land use that reflects the values of all Albertans. Through balanced management of natural resources, recreation, and conservation the Kananaskis and Ghost regions will remain wild, beautiful and accessible for generations to come.

We'd like to know whether this statement reflects the vision of Albertans for the Ghost-Kananaskis area.

To what degree do you support the vision for the sub-regional plan as written?

Draft outcomes

Draft outcomes have been written in preparation for drafting the Ghost-Kananaskis Sub-regional Plan. We’d like to know whether Albertans are satisfied with the list, or if there is an important consideration we might have missed. The draft outcomes, in no particular order, are:

  • Recreation and tourism opportunities are sustainable and sufficient to meet the growing demand.
  • Human footprint is effectively managed to conserve biodiversity and water quality.
  • Our headwaters are protected.
  • Traditional land uses are supported.
  • Policy direction for land uses is streamlined.
  • The natural resource economy of the area is sustained.
  • Wildfire risk is mitigated through preventative actions.

Please let us know your level of satisfaction with the draft list of outcomes.

Are there any suggestions you have to improve the draft outcome list?
Please pick at least two outcomes that are most important to you.
