Facilities and programs that support food and bio-processing businesses in Alberta.

The Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation operates several facilities and programs that support development of value-added businesses through:

  • externally driven applied research
  • product and process development
  • scale-up and commercialization
  • interim processing and incubation
  • business development

Food Processing Development Centre

The Food Processing Development Centre (FPDC) is a modern pilot plant and product development laboratory. It includes equipment that supports food product innovation along the full development and commercialization continuum.

Agrivalue Processing Business Incubator

The Agrivalue Processing Business Incubator (APBI) provides infrastructure and services to support food processing ventures in commercializing products and growing their business.

Bio-Industrial Opportunities Section

The Bio-Industrial Opportunities Section (BIOS) provides technical and industry development support for the development, scale-up and commercialization of non-food value-added products and applications. Adding value to Alberta’s biomass resources helps to create jobs, stimulate economic diversification and grow the provincial economy.
