Key Performance Indicators
The INSIGHT dashboard presents a selected set of system-level indicators that show progress across Alberta’s innovation pipeline.
The metrics are intentionally focused. While many additional measures are tracked across individual programs and organizations, this dashboard provides a consistent snapshot to help Albertans understand the overall impact of innovation investments at the provincial level.

About the Data
The data reflect ATIS 1.0 performance. Not all programs collect every metric, and reporting methods may vary. As a result, figures represent a conservative estimate of impact. Collaborative data collection among the organizations contributing to the INSIGHT dashboard will continue to develop and improve under ATIS 2.0.
The indicators shown include:
- Government of Alberta funding - provincial public funding committed to technology and innovation programs (data from TI and Alberta Innovates).
- Leveraged funding - additional funding attracted from federal sources, industry partners, other governments, institutions, and communities associated with provincially supported activities (data from TI and Alberta Innovates).
- Jobs created - positions created or supported through innovation activities, including both permanent and project-based roles (data from TI, Alberta Innovates-2024/25 only, and AEC).
- Highly Qualified Personnel (HQP) trained or upskilled - students, researchers, fellows, and technical staff who gained skills through provincially supported activities, including talent attracted to and retained in Alberta (data from TI and Alberta Innovates).
- Intellectual property protected - patents filed or granted and other formal protections that support commercialization (data from TI and Alberta Innovates, with the latter tracking patents issued only and licenses with with revenue generating potential).
- Start-ups created (TI and Alberta Innovates) and companies funded (AEC) - new companies formed to commercialize innovation driven technologies or products, as well as total number of Alberta companies funded in AEC's VC portfolio.
