Commercial carrier audits

Audits evaluate commercial carriers' on-road and safety management activities, and compliance with transportation safety laws and requirements.

Introduction

We monitor commercial truck and bus carriers’ compliance with transportation laws and National Safety Code (NSC) program requirements. The Third Party Auditor Certification Program was created to meet the requirements for conducting commercial carrier safety fitness audits under the federal Motor Vehicle Transport Act and Alberta's Traffic Safety Act.

This program certifies candidates to conduct National Safety Code audits or new carrier compliance reviews within Alberta.
Facility audits and new carrier compliance reviews evaluate carriers' on-road and safety management activities, and compliance with laws.
Under the Traffic Safety Act, carriers can request a reconsideration of safety permit and licensing decisions made by the Registrar.
If a carrier does not follow transportation safety laws and requirements, the Alberta Government will intervene to ensure public safety.
