Overview

To become a translator for a Class 3, 6, or 7 driver’s knowledge test you must apply to Examinations and Licensing. Successful applicants will be assigned a Translator Identification Number (TIN).

Fillable PDF forms may not open properly on some mobile devices and web browsers. See the step-by-step guide or contact PDF form technical support.

How to apply

  • Step 1. Submit application package

Email the following 5 documents as attachments in one email to [email protected]:

    • completed TIN Application Form
    • criminal record check including a vulnerable sector check, provided by a law enforcement agency and dated within 90 days of the date of TIN application
    • signed Code of Conduct
    • proof of language aptitude for each language to be translated (except English)
    • proof of affiliation with an approved translator organization or proof of employment by a registry agency

    Important

You are responsible for obtaining and completing the required documents and for any associated costs. If any of the required documents are not properly completed or attached, the application will not be processed and you will be advised by email.

Documents received by mail, courier or in person will not be accepted or processed.

  • Step 2. Receive approval letter

You will get an email from us advising you of the outcome of your application. If successful, you will receive a Translator Identification Number (TIN) as part of the email.

Note: You must ensure we have your current contact information. Email your updated contact information to [email protected].

TINs are valid for 2 years. As the expiry date is shown on the Letter of Approval, renewal notices are not issued. It is the responsibility of the TIN holder to provide renewal documents, by email, at least 30 days before the TIN expiry date.

If at any time we are advised by your affiliated translator organization, a registry agency, or any law enforcement agency of a change in circumstances which affects your eligibility status, your TIN will be cancelled.

Any application received for a TIN which has been cancelled or expired will be processed as a new application.

How to renew your TIN

Your Translator Identification Number (TIN) is valid for 2 years. You can find the expiry date on your letter of approval.

To renew your TIN, you must follow the steps below and provide all documentation in one email to us at [email protected] at least 30 days before your TIN expires.

Important: If you let your TIN expire, it cannot be renewed. You will have to complete a new application package and provide all new application documentation to get another TIN.
