Anti-racism engagement

Albertans shared their perspectives on the impact racism has in this province and on government actions to address racism.

We gathered input from Albertans and Indigenous communities to help ensure future government actions to address racism are effective and inclusive.

We are committed to listening and learning about the experiences of racialized individuals and Indigenous Peoples. This commitment includes steps to protect vulnerable groups from hate and discrimination, removing systemic barriers to accessing government programs, ensuring Albertans have equal access to information and services, and empowering communities to promote inclusion, diversity, multiculturalism and social connection.

Your input will help inform next steps for anti-racism actions, building upon Alberta’s Anti-Racism Action Plan to take meaningful action to address racism and help build a more welcoming and inclusive province for everyone.

Albertans completed our online survey between September 22 and November 10, 2022, to provide their perspectives on the impact racism has in this province and on future government actions to address racism.

Stakeholder discussions

People and organizations with experience or knowledge in combating racism and other community organizations were invited to participate in in-person discussions between September 2022 and January 2023 to gather more in-depth feedback.

Indigenous communities

Government extended invitations to meet with Chiefs in Treaty 6, Treaty 7 and Treaty 8, as well as leadership from Metis Settlements, the Métis Nation of Alberta and the Alberta Métis Federation to ensure Indigenous perspectives on anti-racism were included.

Your input will help make sure future government actions against racism are effective, inclusive and deliver a made-in-Alberta response to challenges.
