Legislated reporting requirements

The Municipal Government Act requires that each municipality prepare annual audited financial statements and a financial information return. Both reports should be returned to Alberta Municipal Affairs by May 1, of each year.

Annual financial statements

Sample financial statements are available as a reference in the preparation of the 2018 annual audited statements for a municipality.

A signed and dated copy of the annual audited financial statements, including the auditors' report, should be submitted using the secured link for your municipality.

Financial Information Return

The 2019 Financial Information Return (FIR) is now available. The 2019 FIR template will be published in early 2020. The template requires Microsoft Excel 2007, or newer, to complete.

A signed and dated copy of the FIR, including the auditors' report, should be scanned and submitted using the secured link for your municipality.
