Northern Lights recipient – Wellspring Alberta Community Connectors

Location: Throughout Alberta

For Albertans diagnosed with cancer, the battle against fear and uncertainty can be as daunting as the fight against the illness. But thanks to a dedicated team of volunteers, they need not face the battle alone.

Community Connectors is a province-wide program of Wellspring Cancer Support Alberta, bringing together volunteers with lived cancer experience or caregiving experience in remote, rural and Indigenous communities across Alberta.

With passion and compassion, connectors serve as an access point for Wellspring services, helping cancer patients find and register for program and resources. And with their knowledge of the community and its residents, connectors will also alert Wellspring of any gaps in programming and how the organization can best serve those in the area. Drawing from their own experience, connectors can also share information of any local services that may already be available. Perhaps most importantly, a caring member of Community Connectors can be the voice on the end of the phone line that patients and their families turn to for understanding and support.

For their commitment to sharing the message that no one needs to face the battle against cancer alone, the Northern Lights Volunteer Recognition Program honours Wellspring Community Connectors.
