In the early days of COVID-19, Shelley Sabo was concerned for her neighbours who may be socially isolated. She wanted people in her Holyrood neighbourhood to know they were not alone while physical distancing.
Shelley created a postcard template with her contact information and important contacts, including 211 and the 24-hour Distress Line, and placed them in mailboxes around her neighbourhood. Thanks to Shelley, the community is coming together with neighbours picking up items for other households, and seniors know there are families nearby and ready to help.
Shelley’s postcard template has been shared with the City of Edmonton, community leagues, churches and senior-serving organizations. These postcards are a helpful tool for organizing neighbourhoods and a powerful reminder that we are all responsible for each other’s well-being.
