When it comes to volunteerism, the team at the Rycroft Community Library wrote the book on community service.

For residents of this northwest Alberta community, the library provides a warm welcoming setting for visitors of all ages, offering a range of resources and programming. From family events to workshops supporting personal, educational and professional development, the key to unlocking this treasure trove of resources is a membership card – available free of charge!

It is the contributions of a committed group of volunteers that makes it all happen, offering up their time and talents to provide the kind of innovative and entertaining programming that has made the library a vital component of the community.

Volunteers like Petrina Beale work tirelessly to secure grants and sponsorships that make the programs at the library accessible to all – including the popular ‘Ladies Night’ program. The initiative, which Petrina suggested and continues to lead, is a chance for women to take a break, gather with friends, meet newcomers to the community and enjoy a range of activities from board games and karaoke to mental health and wellness programming.

The ‘Community Café’ is an open mic musical program run by Steve Everitt and Janet Sinkwich, with Steve providing the music and Janet sharing an array of tasty baked goods. The program is open to all and provides an opportunity for local musicians to share their talents with appreciative audiences. Steve has also teamed with Connie Everitt to host ‘Ancestry Corner.’ The program, which builds a reference section dedicated to local history, assists Rycroft residents interested in learning their ancestry and creating their own family trees.

Joining Petina, Steve, Janet and Connie on the Rycroft Community Volunteer team are Jean Fields, Monique Grobler, Elane Blandin, Roxann Dreger, Nikki Olszewski and Vindu Jacob – each bringing their unique talents to serve their community.

These dedicated volunteers are the authors of the good-news story that is the Rycroft Community Library. For their service, they deserve to be highlighted as worthy recipients of Northern Lights Volunteer Recognition!
