For players on Peace River’s North Peace Navigators, 3 periods of regulation time is not enough to represent the community and they are willing to go into overtime to make the game fun for everyone.
The Navigators partnered with the Peace River Minor Hockey Association on the 7th Player initiative. For each home game of the season, the Navigators welcome a young hockey player to the team. The newbie Navigator laces up to be part of the pre-game warm up and to stand with the team during the national anthem.
Each month, players also host a very special teammate for Wheels on Ice, providing an opportunity for a disabled or mobility impaired member of the community to join the team for an assisted skate and an adapted version of hockey.
The Navigators have also taken their community spirit off-ice to volunteer as hot dog chefs at local celebrations like the annual Light up the Park event and Family Day activities.
For being good sports both on and off the ice and showing a lot of heart, Peace River’s North Peace Navigators are MVPs in our book and recipients of Northern Lights Recognition honours.
