Location: Vermilion, Alberta

Kirby Whitlock has a heart for Vermilion. Easy to see as he is generally at the heart of every event in the central Alberta community, even splitting his time to flip burgers outside his local business to help fundraise for local non-profits and community groups.

Numerous local events dot Kirby’s the calendar, highlighted by the annual Vermilion Fair where he runs the tractor pulling wagons of happy event-goers around the grounds. (This year’s event, hosted by the Vermilion Ag Society, celebrates the 118th anniversary of what is billed as Western Canada’s largest and oldest traditional agricultural fair.)

A long-time member of the local Rotary Club, Kirby’s volunteerism extends to several local organizations including the Vermilion Focus Society, Good Life Institute and the Vermilion Heritage Museum. He often lends his time and talents in support of the community and its residents.

For his long-time community service and generosity of spirit, Kirby Whitlock is very deserving of Northern Lights Volunteer Recognition honours.
