Location: Edmonton, Alberta
The journey to a new home in a new country can be a difficult one but once a newcomer has arrived, Edmonton’s Izabela Torres Bonani is here to make the final leg of that journey a lot easier.
A founding member of the ACL Spiritist Society of Edmonton, Izabela has contributed her time and organizational talents to help Edmonton’s newest residents settle into the capital city. The group recently took the next step to incorporate officially as an Alberta non-profit society.
Izabela’s ability to speak Portuguese has helped her in welcoming fellow Lusophones from diverse nations around the world, providing valuable information and helping to connect newcomers from as varied homelands as Africa and South America. While maintaining a busy household, Izabela still finds the time and energy to travel throughout the city to collect donated clothing, furniture and much more. She stores these donations in her home before organizing and distributing the items to families in need. And when there is a particular need not filled by donations, Izabela is quick to fill the gap.
For her compassion and dedication, we say “parabéns e obrigado” – congratulations and thank you – as we honour Izabela Torres Bonani as a Northern Lights Volunteer Recognition Program recipient.
