Northern Lights recipient – Hansen Distillery

On September 28, they were recognized for making hand sanitizer and distributing it for free to essential service areas during COVID-19.

At the onset of COVID-19, hand sanitizer quickly flew off the shelves of stores around Alberta and was suddenly nowhere to be found. That’s when the Edmonton-based, family-run Hansen Distillery stepped in and quickly repurposed their operations to make Health Canada-approved and legally compliant hand sanitizer.

The distillery is currently offering complimentary hand sanitizer to several essential service areas, including front-line workers, vet clinics and social agencies.

In partnership with Token Bitters (another Edmonton producer), they were able to make a significant donation of Hansen Sanitizer to STARS Air Ambulance first responders and continue to provide donated sanitizer where possible, including to Operation Friendship Seniors Society in Edmonton.

Hansen Distillery owners, Shayna Hansen and her husband, Kris Sustrik, “have huge hearts and during a time when they are struggling to keep their business going, they are still doing everything they can to help the people in their communities stay safe and healthy,” according to their nominator.
