Location: St. Albert, Alberta

St. Albert’s Guzal Mamadalieva could be described as an equal-opportunity volunteer, offering her time and talents to a wide array of organizations and projects.

Since 2017, Guzal has volunteered with the Centre for Autism Services Alberta, which provides support to families and promotes awareness and understanding toward creating new opportunities for people with autism. In her role, Guzal has worked to design and co-ordinate enrichment programming for teens.

For 3 years, Guzal has volunteered her time in support of a local chapter of Girl Guides, during which time she was recognized by colleagues with the presentation of a national award. Guzal demonstrated that same spirit of community engagement in her role as a volunteer with the Edmonton Food Bank and as the President of Change Making Initiative at MacEwan University. The Change Making Initiative is a group of MacEwan students who organize volunteer opportunities to promote positive change within the community. Through the initiative, Guzal volunteered and mentored Indigenous youth, guiding them in academics and empowering them to pursue their academic dreams.

For those who have been touched by Guzal’s volunteerism, she will always be a shining example of service to the community. To us, she is a shining Northern Lights Volunteer Recognition recipient!
