Location: Calgary
Deep Braich is a 17-year-old Grade 12 student at Queen Elizabeth High School in Calgary. She heard from several female friends and acquaintances that they were having trouble accessing hygiene items because their families were struggling financially or they were self-isolating due to COVID-19. In response, Deep created YYC Youth Helping Youth Calgary.
Starting with her own money saved from 3 years of summer jobs, babysitting, and tutoring, Deep began to assemble kits with feminine hygiene products for young girls around Calgary.
Once news of what Deep was doing started to spread, others began to offer help. So far, Deep has received donations of supplies from members of her community and high school as well as financial support from the Calgary Women’s Cultural Association. She has now assembled over 200 kits.
Through her volunteering, Deep is fostering community and demonstrating the importance of caring for one another.
