The Dashmesh Culture Centre in Calgary is serving its community in many ways during COVID-19. Every day, volunteers give out 500 vegetarian meals to Calgarians in need, and 100 of these hot meals are delivered to self-isolating community members. The centre also prepares and delivers 50 food hampers per day and delivers hot meals to truck drivers across the city. They also set up a drive-thru at the Sikh Temple for those who feel safer staying in their vehicles.
According to Amanpreet Singh Gill, the President of the Dashmesh Culture Centre, “all of this could not happen without the help of our Sikh Calgary community, volunteers, generous donors and especially the public for all the support they have shown us. We are working hard since this COVID-19 crisis started and will continue to help those in need as long as they need it. Our volunteers are passionate about the work they are doing and are ready to keep helping as long as needed.”
