Northern Lights recipient – Bishnu Bajgain

On April 7, 2026, Bishnu Bajgain was recognized for his intersectional approach to creating a more secure and inclusive community.

Location: Calgary, Alberta

In just 2 years, Bishnu Bajgain has dedicated more than 1,000 volunteer hours at Calgary’s Centre for Research, Education, and Social Services (CRESS Centre), launching programs that have served more than 2,500 Calgarians.

Bishnu’s initiatives range from safety training (Home Alone Safety Training for low-income Calgarians) and multicultural workshops to food security and digital literacy programs. He created an anti-racism education series to empower racialized individuals and social engagement activities for vulnerable seniors to help ease isolation.

His deep community consultation has strengthened both the community and the organizations he serves. Bishnu’s remarkable volunteerism is a shining example for all. For his service, he is recognized for Northern Lights Volunteer Recognition.
