  • In 2025, Alberta exports of agricultural and food products totalled $17.1 billion. The province’s top 5 agri-food exports were beef ($4 billion), wheat ($3.2 billion), canola seed ($1.5 billion), live cattle ($1.5 billion) and crude canola oil ($1billion).
  • Alberta is Canada’s largest cattle-producing province, with 4.9 million head of cattle and calves as of January 1, 2026, representing 43.6% of Canada’s total. In 2025, Alberta exported $4 billon worth of beef.
  • Over three-quarters of Canadian beef processing occurs in Western Canada with the vast majority concentrated in Alberta. In 2025, Western Canadian cattle slaughter reached 2.3 million head or 76.9% of Canadian total.
  • Our province leads the nation in honey production at 15,520 tonnes in 2025, accounting for 40.7% of national total.
  • Alberta set a record for field crop production in 2025 at 36.4 million tonnes with records for spring wheat, lentils, rye, mixed grains and corn silage. The province produced 54.6% of Canada’s barley, 46.3% of its dry peas, 30.7% of its wheat and 29.1% of its canola.
  • Alberta’s largest export markets in 2025 were the United States ($8.7 billion), Japan ($1.7 billion), China ($1.4 billion), Mexico ($800 million) and South Korea ($500 million), together accounting for 75.8% of total agri-food exports.
  • Alberta produced 27.1% of Canadian potatoes in 2025, maintaining its position as the largest potato producer in Canada. Our potatoes are well-suited for French fries.
