Description: Update 1 May 2018 @ 1145: The Ice Jam on the Athabasca River in the Flats Road area has broken up and dissipated. Water is beginning to recede from the area, however, Flats Road remains impassable East of the Town of Whitecourt boundary in Woodlands County. People are asked to please continue to avoid the area until further notice as safety is still a concern.

Flats Road continues to be barricaded and people are asked to avoid the area until further notice. 10+ Residences affecting 34 individuals were evacuated. Flats Road is impassible East of the Town of Whitecourt boundary, people are to avoid the area. A State of Local Emergency was declared at 6:10 a.m. on 28 April 2018. Should you have any questions or concerns call Woodlands County at 780 778 8400 or if an emergency call 911. Field staff are monitoring the situation and updates will be found on our website at www.woodlands.ab.ca If you encounter an area that requires immediate attention or have any questions, please contact Woodlands County at 1 888 870 6315.

Instruction: Listen for further updates and follow the instructions of local authorities. Avoid the area. Do not bypass or move barricades. Do not travel through water covered roads, use alternate routes and drive with extreme caution.
