Update 29 Apr 2018 @ 1805: Currently no sign of change in the Flats Road Area. The water has risen slightly and the ice jam is still there. Flats Road continues to be barricaded and people are asked to avoid the area until further notice. Localized flooding continues and Flats Road remains closed. Staff are still monitoring the area and will continue to do so throughout the night.

There is a large amount of water travelling across land. The Athabasca River has risen significantly. This is leading to localized flooding along flats Road in Woodlands County resulting in road closure & hazards. 10+ Residents have been evacuated, Flats Road is impassible, people are to avoid the area. Barricades and signs are in place. A State of Local Emergency was declared at 6:10 a.m. Please avoid the area. Should you have any questions or concerns call Woodlands County at 780 778 8400 or if an emergency call 911. Field staff are monitoring the situation and updates will be found on our website at www.woodlands.ab.ca If you encounter an area that requires immediate attention or have any questions, please contact Woodlands County at 1 888 870 6315.

  • Leave the area if it is safe to do so
  • Listen for further updates and follow the instructions of local authorities
  • Avoid the area
  • Do not bypass or move barricades
  • Do not travel through water covered roads, use alternate routes and drive with extreme caution.
