About the region

Established in 1963, the Northern Alberta Development Council supports growth in more than 150 communities in Alberta's north.

Overview

The Northern Alberta Development Council (NADC) supports general development in Alberta's northern region which has unique opportunities and challenges. 

Goals

Encourage economic growth and community development by:

  • building partnerships among key stakeholders 
  • fostering economic strength and diversity by advocating for development in transportation, value-added agriculture, tourism, health and other areas
  • increasing awareness of northern Alberta’s opportunities and advancing development

Region

The NADC region represents 60% of Alberta’s landmass (380,000 km2) and 9% of the total population.

Provincial assets in the region include having 100% of the mineable oil sands development in the province and an estimated 87% of the managed forest land base.

  • Natural resources (including agriculture)
