Overview
We are gathering feedback from the Alberta Association of Career Colleges and private career college operators, student advocacy groups, industry partners and other stakeholders to support the development of regulations and policies supporting the Private Vocational Training Amendment Act.
Specific areas of interest include requirements related to student protections and institution oversight, and quality assurance and program standards.
Private career colleges play a vital role in Alberta’s adult learning system, offering diverse and flexible vocational training that responds to the changing needs of the economy and contributes to building a skilled workforce.

The Private Vocational Training Amendment Act received Royal Assent on November 26, 2025, amending the more than 20-year-old Private Vocational Training Act. It is anticipated to come into force in fall 2026.
The department meets monthly with the Alberta Association of Career Colleges. Private career college operators may wish to reach out to the Alberta Association of Career Colleges for information on the association’s role in informing regulatory changes and their own related projects to improve private vocational training in Alberta.
Stakeholder engagement
In early 2026, Alberta's government will connect with stakeholders to provide an opportunity to share their thoughts on Private Vocational Training Regulation and policy development.
Outcomes
Stakeholder feedback will help inform development of regulations and policies supporting the Private Vocational Training Amendment Act to enhance oversight and transparency of the private career college sector and better protect the investments students are making in their education.
