Primary agricultural producers engagement

Primary producers shared feedback to help government understand the barriers to growth in the agriculture sector.

Overview

We gathered feedback from primary producers to better understand challenges and barriers to growth in Alberta’s agriculture sector.

This sector has faced a variety of changes in the last few years including rising input costs, policy direction uncertainties from the federal government, volatile commodity prices, rising interest rates, and supply chain challenges.

Producers could share their input about:

  • the cost of production
  • impediments to establish, maintain or grow an agricultural operation
  • government policy or programming that would support a thriving agriculture sector

Input received

Online survey

Primary agriculture producers had the opportunity to complete an online survey between June 18 and July 31, 2024.

Outcomes

The survey results will help us better understand the specific barriers and opportunities producers see in the primary agriculture industry sector. This feedback may help inform future engagements and policy direction or program development as we continue to reduce red tape and minimize impediments to do business in Alberta.
