Outfitting camps disturbance standard engagement

Stakeholders share feedback to help inform a general permission and standards for occupying outfitting camps on public land.

Overview

Alberta’s government has collected input from the province’s outfitter community to help inform the proposed outfitting camps on public lands disturbance standard. This standard will provide a streamlined and consistent process for outfitters setting up temporary camps for their outfitting operations on Alberta’s vacant public lands.

Alberta’s public lands are an economic driver for the province, supporting rural communities, creating jobs and providing accessible outdoor recreation opportunities. Outfitting camps are integral to Alberta's guided hunting and tourism sector, serving a growing demand for outdoor experiences.

Get informed

A clear disturbance standard will support the outfitting industry in connecting Albertans and visitors to the province’s natural heritage while ensuring the long-term health and resilience of our outdoor spaces.

The proposed disturbance standard will make it easier to understand what outfitters are allowed to do when setting up outfitting camps on public land. It will explain where camps can be set up, where vegetation can be cleared, whether outfitters need permission to set up and other rules that consider potential impacts to the landscape. These proposed standards seek to create a fair and simple process for the outfitters community while still ensuring we responsibly manage our public lands.
