Overview
An expert panel is gathering feedback on how nuclear power could be integrated into Alberta’s energy mix to provide reliable baseload power and opportunities for industrial application, such as in the oil sands, while further reducing emissions.
As the demand for electricity continues to rise, nuclear power has the potential to provide safe, reliable energy to help meet those demands.
The engagement is being completed in phases. In the first phase, the panel gathered initial input from Albertans, Indigenous communities and stakeholders to help identify information needs, engagement interest and preferences. This input helped the panel understand key questions and perspectives on developing a nuclear industry in Alberta, while ensuring meaningful engagement with different individuals, groups and communities across the province.
The second phase is focused on engaging directly with Albertans, Indigenous communities and organizations to better understand their perspectives on the potential for nuclear energy development and provide additional opportunities for industry and the public to share feedback.
