Introduction
Municipal organizations and leaders face enormous challenges every day with the complexity of bringing together diverse groups of people, managing projects, providing high levels of service, being responsive to residents and adhering to legislation. Collaborative processes and service delivery models are common and critical for municipalities across the province.
For over 25 years, the Alberta government has been providing collaborative governance workshops and training to build conflict management skills and dispute resolution support to help municipalities improve how they deal with conflict internally and with other municipalities.
While this program has been recognized with 3 Premier’s Awards of Excellence and a Canada Award of Excellence from the National Quality Institute – the greatest testament to its high quality and effectiveness is in the many success stories.

The goal is to develop local solutions to local issues since unresolved conflict costs have financial impacts and can cause significant damage to relationships.
