First Nations Relations

Works in partnership with First Nations to advance programs and initiatives that empower and support Indigenous communities.

Introduction

Alberta is home to 48 First Nations across Treaties 6, 7 and 8. These Nations represent diverse cultures, languages and governance systems.

First Nations have shaped Alberta’s history for generations and continue to play a vital role in its future. Their contributions strengthen the social, cultural and economic fabric of the province.

The Alberta government's First Nations Relations branch offers guidance to provincial and federal departments, municipal governments and industry, and actively contributes to cross-ministry initiatives that impact Indigenous Peoples in areas such as education, health care and children’s services.
