Government mail service may be affected by the Canada Post labour disruption. Learn about how critical government mail will be handled.
Overview
Alberta’s government is working toward a consolidated licensing framework for direct sellers, including prepaid contractors. A consolidated approach for people engaged in direct sales, including prepaid contracting will:
- simplify the licensing framework and ensure alignment with the Consumer Protection Act, and
- provide opportunities for the modernization of the regulatory framework to better address consumer risk
Stakeholder engagement
An initial questionnaire was distributed in May 2026 and will be followed up with engagement sessions. Participants include stakeholder organizations, businesses and individuals who market or sell goods or services away from their normal place of business, including those who currently hold a prepaid or direct selling licence.
Outcomes
Stakeholder input will help assess opportunities to improve Alberta’s consumer protection framework and inform the design of a new regulatory approach. Feedback gathered through engagement will be considered as policy options are developed.
