Overview
The Cybercrime Task Force will study the impact of cybercrime on Albertans and recommend actions that could help address the growing problem of:
- fraud
- identity theft, and
- extortion
The task force will be comprised of representatives with knowledge and experience in technology, consumer protection and law enforcement. The group will also include community group representatives with experience addressing the impacts of fraud, identity theft and extortion on Albertans.
Mandate
The taskforce will explore ways to protect people from scammers who impersonate or use threats or deception to make people give up their personal information or make payments to the scammer. The group will explore both legislative and regulatory options and advocacy with the federal government, with a focus on consumer protection and public safety.
