Introduction

Non-profit organizations are able to easily showcase their projects on the Crowdfunding Alberta platform and share them with their networks and communities. Albertans seeking to support causes that are meaningful for them can search the platform, support and share campaigns and contribute to a strong and connected non-profit sector.

How it works

Through the Crowdfunding Alberta platform, organizations create their campaigns and invite supporters to share on social media and donate. The organization receives all of the donations raised, less third party payment processing fees and optional platform fees, whether they reach their funding goal or not.

Non-profits establish how often the campaign donations are deposited to best align with bookkeeping and reporting needs. If an organization is approved for match funding from us, it will be deposited via electronic funds transfer.

See the Crowdfunding Alberta fact sheet for more information.

The Alberta government administers and funds the Crowdfunding Alberta platform in partnership with ConnectionPoint Systems Inc.

Match funding

Match funding incentivizes new and existing donors to support organizations and causes that matter most to them.

Eligible campaigns can receive up to $15,000 per year in additional funding from the Government of Alberta.

Match funding provided to crowdfunding campaigns is an innovative small grant alternative for organizations that does not require the group to complete an additional grant application.

The Government of Alberta will match 30% of funds raised by an eligible campaign in its first 8 weeks on the platform.

Referral bonus

Organizations signed up on Crowdfunding Alberta may be eligible for a $1,000 referral bonus from the Government of Alberta if the organization they refer reaches its first campaign’s goal.

There is no limit to the number of organizations you can refer or the number of referral bonuses your organization can receive.

The referred organization must indicate your organization when asked 'How did you hear about Crowdfunding Alberta?' when completing their organizational profile. This information must be completed before the referred organization reaches its first campaign’s goal.

Support a campaign

Everyone is invited to support as many campaigns as they wish. If the campaign is run by a charity registered with the Canada Revenue Agency the donation is eligible for a charitable tax receipt.

Only registered charities or non-profits with tax-exempt status are able to issue tax receipts through the platform system. In that case, donors will receive a receipt in an email a few minutes after receiving a payment notification email with the transaction details.
