During these times of uncertainty, Alberta Culture Days is encouraging community organizations to explore and transform how this celebration is shared with Albertans.

Month of the Artist was moved to September to complement this initiative. Alberta Culture Days Celebration Sites will have the opportunity to host their event/activities throughout the month of September.

Alberta Culture Days is an opportunity to discover, experience and celebrate arts and culture through local events and activities, in person and online across the province.

More than 800 communities from coast to coast participated in National Culture Days 2019 to increase awareness, accessibility, participation and engagement of Canadians in the arts and cultural life of their communities.

Nationally, Culture Days 2020 is extending beyond the traditional Culture Days Weekend to a more inclusive and interactive 4-week schedule of activities from September 25 to October 25.

About Alberta Culture Days

Plan an event

Anyone can host an Alberta Culture Days event.

With current restrictions on public gatherings, we encourage community organizers to host events, either online or small in-person activities, to celebrate Alberta Culture Days 2020.

If you are considering an online event, you can explore anything from online art classes to singing competitions, to online cooking classes and dance lessons – opportunities are endless!

There is no shortage of online platforms to show off your cultural celebrations this year – and not only with your community but far beyond. Zoom, Webex, Microsoft Teams, Facebook Live, Instagram Live, and YouTube are at your service to engage with art and culture lovers everywhere. You can also pre-record an event and post it online.

If public gatherings are permitted, your event could be something simple like a neighbourhood block party, a behind-the-scene tour of an arts facility or as elaborate as a community concert. The opportunities are endless.

Use our event planning tips and tools to organize activities in your community.
