The partnership brings together the agriculture industry, government and environmental organizations to address agri environmental issues.

Overview

The Agri-Environmental Partnership of Alberta is a multi‑stakeholder partnership that brings the agriculture industry, government and environmental organizations together to work on agri environmental issues. The partnership engages its partners with the policy-decision makers to participate in policy and program development.

The vision of this partnership is for agri‑environmental policies to be balanced and to support sustainable industry growth. Its mission is to focus on providing credible, proactive and evidence‑based input into agri‑environmental policy development.

The partnership’s mandate is to facilitate collaboration between Alberta’s government and the agriculture industry to identify and proactively address environmental challenges and opportunities. This work supports resilience and sustainability of primary production in Alberta.

Advisory committee and partners

The advisory committee consists of 16 members that share information to over 20 agricultural organizations, governments and non-government organizations. The committee is co‑chaired by representatives from Alberta’s government and the agriculture industry.

Working groups

Working groups are created to study key issues and provide policy advice to the advisory committee by bringing together partners and other affected stakeholders. There are currently 2 active working groups
 

  • Climate resiliency and biodiversity working group

    This working group leads the partnership’s work on climate-adaptation, resiliency and biodiversity issues by:

    • identifying emerging topics in climate adaptation, landscape resilience and biodiversity
    • providing a forum for partners to discuss policy impacts on agriculture
    • advising on climate-resilience and biodiversity initiatives that support sustainable agriculture
  • Water working group

    The water working group leads the partnership’s work on provincial water quality, water supply and water policy by:

    • helping partners understand water‑related issues that affect agriculture
    • gathering feedback from partners to inform provincial water policy
    • providing input on water initiatives that support sustainable agriculture
