Celebrating Alberta’s Olympians and Paralympians
Premier Rachel Notley and Minister of Culture and Tourism Ricardo Miranda welcomed athletes, coaches and support staff in the legislature to celebrate their accomplishments at the Olympic and Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.
“Alberta is very proud of our world-class Olympians and Paralympians. The coaches and support staff who help them to perform at the highest levels deserve our tribute as well. On behalf of all Albertans, it is my great pleasure to thank all of them for their achievements and to honour them today.”

The government also unveiled a display case in the legislature rotunda with Olympic and Paralympic mementos from Games past and present.
Alberta sent 56 athletes and coaches to Rio de Janeiro for the 2016 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games. Our athletes brought home 10 medals, contributing to Canada’s total of 51 medals at the 2016 Games.
