“Over the past 16 days, the world has watched as Canada’s best athletes broke records and showed amazing strength and courage. We have seen Canada’s outstanding female athletes dominate these Olympics, inspiring millions of young women and girls to pursue excellence in sport themselves.

“Through it all, Albertans played an important role in making these Olympics one of the best for Canada in recent history, both the athletes born here in the province and the hundreds who live and train here. Each and every one of them made Alberta and Canada proud and the 22 Olympic medals brought home by Canadian athletes are a true testament to their passion, dedication and hard work.

“Congratulations to all of Alberta’s athletes, coaches and support staff who represented Team Canada at the Summer Olympics in Rio. You have all become part of Alberta’s outstanding sport legacy and I am both proud of your accomplishments and excited for your future success.

Now we get ready for even more amazing stories as Rio prepares to host the 2016 Paralympic Summer Games in September. I am confident that Alberta will be an important part of Canada’s path to the podium there as well.”
