Description: Alberta Emergency Alert - Train Accident Alert At Irvine In Cypress County Updated

There is a train derailment on the west side of the hamlet of Irvine and situated along the north side of Highway 1 in Cypress County. The derailment involves damage along the railway line, chemical exposure, and disruption of road and highway access. Residents within a 7 kilometre radius are required to evacuate immediately to the emergency reception center in Dunmore.

For safety precautions, all residents wihin a 7 kilometre radius of the hamlet of Irvine is required to evacuate the area immediately and report to the emergency evacuation reception centre at the Cypress County Administration Office, located at 816 Second Avenue in the hamlet of Dunmore. Residents located on the north side of Highway 1 are asked to travel north along Range Road 30, and then turn west onto Township Road 124 and head to Highway 41 to access Highway 1 into Dunmore. Residents located on the south side of Highway 1 are asked to travel along Township Road 114A to gain access to Highway 41, or are asked to use the Bull Trail and turn west onto Township Road 110A to access to Range Road 32 to head south to Township Road 110 and then turn and head west along Township Road 110 to the Eagle Butte Road to provide access to the hamlet of Dunmore. Please be advised that Highway 1 has been closed as a result of the train derailment and is not a travel route option. East bound travel for Highway 1 has been diverted around the scene by heading north on Highway 41, east of Dunmore, and then turning east onto Township Road 132 for approximately 34 kilometres. Traffic will then be required to turn south onto Range Road 13 and travel south to then access Highway 1 through the hamlet of Walsh. West bound travel along Highway 1 has been diverted north at the entrance into the hamlet of Walsh where traffic will head north and access Range Road 12. Traffic will then turn west on Township Road 132 for approximately 34 kilometres to access Highway 41. Traffic can then turn south on Highway 41 to access Highway 1 just east of the Hamlet of Dunmore. Go to www.511.alberta.ca for up to date Road Report information.
