On Jan. 12, 2026, RCMP officers went to an industrial property in the County of Grande Prairie to carry out a search warrant related to alleged firearm offences. Police were looking for firearms and a man wanted on an arrest warrant.
An RCMP crisis negotiation team began speaking with a man inside a building on the property when officers arrived to execute the search warrant shortly after 6 a.m.
In the hours that followed, someone fired shots at police on six separate occasions, with police returning fire on the sixth occasion. No one was injured in the exchange of gunfire.
At about 6:30 p.m., an officer fired an impact projectile, striking the man in the face and causing a serious injury to his eye. Police took the man into custody and transported him to hospital for medical treatment.
The RCMP recovered multiple firearms from the property.
