On July 28, the Alberta Serious Incident Response Team (ASIRT) was directed to investigate a Strathcona County RCMP shooting that happened earlier that day.
On July 28 at 10:30 a.m., an RCMP officer observed a man in the secure parking lot of the Strathcona County detachment. The officer believed the man was in possession of a firearm and broadcast that information over the police radio.
Several other officers entered the secure parking lot, located the man and provided verbal direction to the man. Four officers discharged their firearms, striking the man multiple times.
Officers immediately began providing first aid and the man was transported to hospital with serious injuries. The man remains in hospital and is expected to survive. No officers were injured in the incident.

ASIRT’s investigation will examine the use of force. No additional information will be released.
ASIRT’s mandate is to effectively, independently and objectively investigate incidents involving Alberta’s police that have resulted in serious injury or death to any person, as well as serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct.
