From Aug. 5 – 10, teams from North, Central, South America and the Caribbean will compete for a title at the Men’s U21 Pan American Cup. Volleyball has a long and proud history in Canada, as the first country outside of the United States to play the sport. The province’s key role in volleyball culture makes it a fitting stage for the Volleyball Pan American Cup.

Alberta’s government contributed $200,000 in funding through the Major Sport Events grant program to support this tournament. This grant program provides financial support to help with the costs associated with hosting national and international competitions in Alberta. The event is expected to draw more than 4,500 spectators and is projected to inject $2.4 million into the economy as visitors dine, shop, stay and play locally.

“I’m happy to welcome athletes and officials from across the Americas and the Caribbean to our beautiful province. We are proud to host this championship and give an exciting opportunity for our athletes to show their Alberta spirit on their home court.”

Andrew Boitchenko, Minister of Tourism and Sport

This tournament is the last stop before the teams head to the 2025 U21 World Championships. Three athletes will represent Alberta on Team Canada; Grant Hill from Calgary and Edmonton’s Owen Harris and Kale Fisher. Since the launch of the tournament in 2011, Team Canada has consistently secured a spot in the top 3.

“Volleyball Canada is very excited to bring some of the top young volleyball athletes to Calgary and to the Tsuut’ina Nation. The event will be the final preparation opportunity for teams for the U21 Men’s World Championships, so fans can be assured of a top-level competition.”
