“Last year, Alberta kickstarted a project with the Port of Prince Rupert and the Industrial Heartland Association to identify opportunities to ship more Alberta products through northern British Columbia to markets around the world.

“Together, we launched a study utilizing the Port of Prince Rupert. The Alberta Forum forms a common group for producers, shippers, businesses and communities to share ideas about leveraging and enhancing the economic corridor from Alberta through to Prince Rupert port, and ultimately improving export opportunities for Alberta businesses through the port.

“This week, I was pleased to tour the Port of Prince Rupert to meet with partners, see the work taking place under the Alberta Forum, and to view the ongoing Ridley Island expansion, which will be vital for boosting Alberta exports and strengthening our global competitiveness through improved supply chain logistics.

“With its ongoing expansion, the Port of Prince Rupert will become Canada’s second largest port, and I’m proud of the work being done through the Alberta Forum to expand this vital economic corridor and increase Alberta’s access to tidewater.

“The need for better interprovincial co-ordination, targeted investment in rail and road infrastructure, and regulatory certainty are key to unlocking economic growth. That is why the forum is focused on the highway and railway corridor between Alberta’s Industrial Heartland and Prince Rupert.

“While the Alberta Forum is really about stakeholders working together to solve challenges, Alberta’s government is also looking forward to recommendations coming out of the Alberta Forum that will be provided in a final report by the end of 2025.”
