On Oct. 19, 2019, pursuant to Sec. 46.1 of the Police Act, ASIRT was directed to investigate a Calgary Police Service officer-involved shooting causing injury that occurred earlier that day. ASIRT’s investigation is now complete.

On April 9, 2020, pursuant to Sec. 46.1 of the Police Act, ASIRT was directed to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of a man who had been released from RCMP custody days earlier. ASIRT’s investigation is now complete.

ASIRT’s mandate is to effectively, independently and objectively investigate incidents involving Alberta’s police that have resulted in serious injury or death to any person, as well as serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct.
