On Oct. 23, 2019, pursuant to Sec. 46.1 of the Police Act, ASIRT was directed to investigate a use of force involving Calgary Police Service (CPS) officers. ASIRT’s investigation is now complete.

On Oct. 6, 2020, pursuant to Sec. 46.1 of the Police Act, ASIRT was directed to investigate the death of a man on the day he was released from RCMP custody at the Fort Macleod detachment. ASIRT’s investigation is now complete.

ASIRT’s mandate is to effectively, independently and objectively investigate incidents involving Alberta’s police that have resulted in serious injury or death to any person, as well as serious or sensitive allegations of police misconduct.
