At 12:56 p.m., St. Paul RCMP received a call about a potential impaired driver. Officers located the vehicle and began to follow it at a distance. The driver continued to a residence in Saddle Lake. At the residence, officers moved in to arrest the driver, who was still in the vehicle. An incident then occurred at approximately 2:30 p.m., during which one officer discharged his firearm, striking the rear passenger tire of the vehicle. During the same incident, the vehicle also collided with a marked police vehicle.

Officers then arrested the driver without further incident. He was not injured. A loaded firearm was located in the vehicle.

ASIRT’s investigation will examine the use of force. No additional information will be released.

As part of its ongoing investigation, ASIRT is continuing efforts to identify people who may have witnessed aspects of the confrontation between the man and police. ASIRT is asking anyone who may have been in the area and may have witnessed these events and/or may have video to contact investigators at 780-644-1483.
