“This Child Abuse Prevention Month, and throughout the year, we affirm every child’s right to be safe and supported. It is up to all of us to know the signs of abuse and neglect, and how to report concerns for a child’s well-being. Speaking up to protect children is a courageous act that can have life-changing affects on young people, showing them they are not alone.

“At Children’s Services, the safety and well-being of Alberta’s children and youth is our focus. We appreciate every family member, Elder, community leader and caring professional who helps keep children safe.

“During Child Abuse Prevention Month, we want to highlight the important work of child advocacy centres across Alberta to support children and families throughout the disclosure and healing journey. You can learn more about child advocacy centres, including a new centre in central Alberta, at albertacacs.ca.

“Keeping children safe is everyone’s business. If you see something that worries you, don’t wait. You can report your concern to the 24-hour confidential Child Abuse Hotline at 1-800-387-KIDS (5437). You can also contact a local Children’s Services office, Delegated First Nation Agency or police. You could make a world of difference to a child.”
