At approximately noon, RCMP officers were called to a residence in the Porter Creek neighbourhood to respond to a complaint involving a man armed with a firearm. Once on scene, police located a man in a Ford truck in front of a residence. A confrontation occurred and a single shot was discharged from an officer’s service weapon. The 54-year-old man, who was the lone occupant of the vehicle, was not injured and was arrested soon after without further incident. A .44-calibre rifle was recovered from the vehicle following the incident. There were no injuries to police or other civilians.

Pursuant to an agreement between the Yukon and Alberta governments, investigations of serious incidents involving Yukon RCMP are conducted by ASIRT.

ASIRT’s investigation will focus on the actions of police during this incident, while RCMP will maintain responsibility for the investigation into the initial complaint and the man’s subsequent actions. ASIRT investigators are asking anyone who witnessed this incident or may have photos or video to call ASIRT at 403-592-4306.

As ASIRT’s investigation is underway, no further information will be released at this time.
