Every two years, the Community Justice Awards pay tribute to the people and organizations whose efforts help keep communities safe and resilient.

From police officers, lawyers and correctional services staff to victim advocates, youth volunteers and emergency managers, the awards highlight the dedication, leadership and service of people in Alberta who work every day to improve lives. This year, 25 different people received an award during a ceremony in Lethbridge.

“I am truly grateful for the inspirational work done by this year’s recipients. Behind every safer community are people whose commitment often goes unrecognized, and these awards are meant to change that. We’re shining a light on contributions at the local level, and I hope the accomplishments of today’s recipients will inspire others to follow their lead.”

Mike Ellis, Minister of Public Safety and Emergency Services

“The recipients of this year’s Community Justice Awards demonstrate the dedication, compassion and innovation that help Albertans build safer, stronger communities. I congratulate each of them on this well-deserved recognition.”

Mickey Amery, Minister of Justice and Attorney General

Individuals, teams and organizations were nominated in five categories: Enhancing Access to Justice; Representing and Assisting Victims; Responding to and Preventing Crime and Violence; Advancing Offender Rehabilitation and Reintegration; and Supporting Disaster Readiness and Community Resilience.
